Zemen Bank Chief Wholesale Banking Officer, Michael Tsegaye, says Ethiopia’s financial sector reform has supported the entire aviation ecosystem.

Speaking at the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Focus Africa Conference in Addis Ababa, Michael presented a compelling vision of Ethiopia’s evolving financial landscape and its direct benefits for the Private sector.
Citing the country’s sweeping macroeconomic reforms launched in July 2024, Michael highlighted how policy changes including a market-determined exchange rate as well as the establishment of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) are creating a more open and investable market

“Ethiopia is transitioning into a more open, competitive, and investable market,” Michael told the audience. He emphasized that improved FX access is already benefiting airlines through smoother fuel procurement, leasing arrangements, and sales repatriations.
